Debris Separation

After removing the buoyant debris from the beach we can further separate the natural and synthetic material. This is done by placing the debris in a vacuum chamber and submerging it under water. When the vacuum is applied it removes the air from within the cells and pockets of the natural material and forces water in its place. When the pressure is released the natural material stays waterlogged and sinks to the bottom. The synthetic plastics stay on top and can now be separated. GO SCIENCE!!
